Indigenous marine resource management provides culturally embedded knowledge that can enrich contextual science education and promote sustainability awareness. However, the scientific reconstruction of customary marine practices into structured science learning resources remains limited. This study aimed to reconstruct the ethnoscience knowledge embedded in sasi lola (Trochus niloticus) on Sermata Island, Southwest Maluku, Indonesia, and map its relevance to contextual junior secondary science learning and sustainability awareness. An ethnographic approach was employed in Regoha Village, with three purposively selected key informants representing customary, religious, and village authorities. Data were collected from May 2026 through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using Spradley’s domain, taxonomic, componential, and cultural-theme analyses, supported by source and method triangulation, member checking, and expert review. The findings indicate that sasi lola integrates ecological, technical, normative, and institutional knowledge through seasonal closure–opening cycles, collective harvesting restrictions, molo (diving) practices, customary sanctions, and community benefit sharing. These practices were reconstructed into science concepts related to animal growth and reproduction, population, habitat, biodiversity, abiotic factors, and hydrostatic pressure, and connected with environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability awareness. The resulting reconstruction matrix demonstrates the potential of sasi lola as a culturally relevant and contextual science learning resource for archipelagic schools.
