Implementasi Penyidikan Tindak Pidana Peredaran Narkotika (Studi kasus di Polresta Mataram)

Abstract

This study aims to examine the investigation procedures and the challenges encountered in handling narcotics trafficking cases at the Mataram City Police (Polresta Mataram). The research employed an empirical legal research method by integrating statutory, conceptual, and sociological approaches to obtain a comprehensive understanding of law enforcement practices. The findings reveal that the investigation process begins with the receipt of a public report or intelligence information, followed by arrest, search, seizure of evidence, suspect examination, and the imposition of legal sanctions in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Furthermore, the study identifies several major challenges that hinder the effectiveness of narcotics investigations. First, drug dealers or couriers often have no direct acquaintance with recipients, making it difficult for investigators to trace criminal networks. Second, limited public awareness and inadequate information regarding the dangers, characteristics, and various types of narcotics reduce community participation in supporting law enforcement efforts. Third, the constantly changing locations of narcotics transactions complicate surveillance, evidence collection, and the identification of perpetrators. These findings indicate that effective narcotics investigations require not only procedural compliance but also stronger community engagement, improved intelligence gathering, and adaptive investigative strategies to respond to the evolving patterns of narcotics distribution and strengthen the effectiveness of criminal law enforcement.
