Abstract

This study aims to improve student learning outcomes in Social Studies (IPS) for Class X-C at MA Al-Majidiyah NWDI Majidi through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. The background of this research stems from the low level of student understanding and engagement in the learning process, which was characterized by the dominance of lecture-based teaching and the low achievement of learning mastery in IPS material. This classroom action research (CAR) was conducted in two cycles, with each cycle consisting of the planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and learning outcome tests. The results of the study indicate a significant improvement in both student activity and learning outcomes after the implementation of the PBL model. In Cycle I, only 5 out of 22 students (22.72%) achieved the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM). After improvements were made in Cycle II, the number of students who achieved mastery increased to 17 out of 22 students (77.27%). This improvement occurred because PBL encourages students to think critically, collaborate, analyze problems, and connect Social Studies concepts with real-life situations. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning model is effective in improving the Social Studies learning outcomes of Class X-C students at MA Al-Majidiyah NWDI Majidi. Thus, this model is recommended as an innovative and student-centered alternative learning method
