Pengalaman mahasiswa pendidikan matematika Universitas Asahan mengelola fear of missing out di tengah tuntutan perkuliahan

Perkembangan teknologi digital yang pesat mendorong meningkatnya intensitas penggunaan media sosial di kalangan mahasiswa, yang berpotensi memunculkan fenomena Fear of Missing Out (FoMO). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi pengalaman mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika Universitas Asahan dalam mengelola FoMO di tengah tuntutan perkuliahan. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik purposive sampling, melibatkan 10 mahasiswa aktif pengguna media sosial sebagai responden. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner terbuka (open-ended questionnaire) dan dianalisis melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, serta penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian mengidentifikasi lima tema utama, yaitu: (1) pemahaman mahasiswa tentang FoMO sebagai rasa takut tertinggal informasi dan tren; (2) media sosial sebagai pemicu utama FoMO; (3) dampak FoMO berupa gangguan konsentrasi belajar dan pengelolaan waktu, sekaligus motivasi untuk mencari peluang pengembangan diri; (4) strategi pengelolaan FoMO melalui pembatasan penggunaan media sosial, penetapan prioritas, dan pengurangan kebiasaan membandingkan diri dengan orang lain; serta (5) tantangan berupa kesulitan mengontrol penggunaan media sosial dan menyeimbangkan kebutuhan informasi dengan tuntutan akademik. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa kemampuan regulasi diri dan manajemen waktu merupakan faktor kunci dalam mengelola FoMO secara efektif agar tidak menghambat proses perkuliahan.
